Representative Sheila Jackson Lee Passes Away After Battling Cancer

The congresswoman from Texas was 74.

Representative Sheila Jackson Lee passed away at the age of 74 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, her family announced on Friday. A prominent figure in Congress since 1995, Jackson Lee was known for her advocacy for civil rights, racial justice, and human rights.

Born in Queens, New York, and a graduate of Yale University and the University of Virginia Law School, she had a career in law and public service before being elected to Congress.

Colleagues from both sides of the aisle, including President Biden, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and Senator Ted Cruz, expressed their condolences and praised her dedication and leadership.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott stated that Congresswoman Jackson Lee was “a proud Texan and a tireless advocate for the people of Houston. Her legacy of public service and dedication to Texas will live on.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God’s comfort for Representative Jackson Lee’s family and loved ones.
  • For the governing officials who are commemorating her service.
  • For prudence for Texas and Houston leaders as they evaluate a possible special election for someone to complete the congressional term.
